Who Am I?

By trade, Donavan is a licensed Social Worker and Mitigation Specialist that has had the pleasure of working in this capacity in Minnesota, Colorado and Arizona for the past 18 years. He also is an assistant professor in social work. He also is a trainer within various Public Defender circles and also a trained Cultural Competency Facilitator. Donavan has worked on both adult and juvenile cases, as well capital cases; this includes the vast array of responsibilities that come with our cases, from records collection, consultation, building social histories/etc, interviewing, writing reports, community/professional collaboration, training, mitigation presentations and working within holistic and team defense focuses.  This includes case management and the myriads of “sophisticated gopher” responsibilities that mitigation and social work engenders in defense cases.

Donavan is a native of Indianapolis, IN. In his freetime, he is an AAU Girls Basketball coach, loves sports, addicted to good music, attends church, frequents the Colorado Rockies and binge-watches his favorite TV Show, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network.

His past work experience includes work as a youth counselor, police officer, and residential treatment supervisor. He holds a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership, Doctorate in Education, and is currently a Masters in Social Work candidate.

COMMUNITY

Donavan from his youth has been involved in the community. Whether having fun coaching AAU girls basketball, being on the pycho-social staff at Children’s Hospital of Colorado Burn Camps, or Co-hosting Barbershop Talk South Minnesota, service has always been and extension of who he is as a person.

Advocate

Donavan has a passion to assist and serve at-risk communities. In a spirit of giving back, he has been a community advocate in many capacities and served on various boards and communities.
